Meet Dr. Melissa Waxman

Psychologist | Specializing in Anxiety & OCD

My Approach

I believe that every person has the capacity to overcome anxiety and OCD when given the right tools and support. My approach combines evidence-based treatments, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure/Response Prevention, with genuine connection and a collaborative therapeutic relationship.

Anxiety and OCD can take over your life, affecting work, school, relationships, and daily routines. I've seen firsthand how these challenges can lead to avoidance, social isolation, and significant stress. But I've also seen how people can reclaim their lives when they learn practical skills and face their fears with support.

When working with children and teens, I involve the whole family. Parents and caregivers are crucial partners in the process, and I'm here to help you understand what's happening, respond effectively, and support your child's progress at home.

Why I Do This Work

I became a psychologist because I wanted to help people better understand challenges like anxiety and OCD, conditions that are highly treatable with the right approach. There's nothing more meaningful than watching someone who has felt stuck in worry or rituals begin to feel more free, capable, and confident.

Whether I'm working with a young adult navigating anxiety on their own or partnering with a family to support their child, I bring the same commitment. You don't have to figure it out alone. I'm here to guide, support, and work alongside you.

Background & Education

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with formalized training and expertise in anxiety and OCD. I completed my undergraduate degree at University of Michigan in Psychology and Communication Studies. I earned my Doctorate in School Psychology (PsyD) from St. John's University, where I developed a deep understanding of how to work with youth in both school and clinical settings. My training focused specifically on evidence-based interventions for anxiety, OCD, and related challenges. I'm passionate about helping children, teens, and young adults, whether it's a child avoiding school, a teen withdrawing from friends, or a young adult struggling with obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors that interfere with daily life.
